We have a saying in Portugal: ‘armar-se em carapau corrida’ (armed like a racing mackerel). That’s what we call a little fish who is getting ahead of himself and needs to take a breath, grab a beer, and just chill. What’s the rush, anyway? It’s summertime, there’s a beach nearby, and you’re in a place with good food, good people, and good times to be had. The Racing Mackerel Hostel is a place for you to escape the race back home and relax with people who know how to enjoy life!
The Hostel was the family home for several generations of native Lacobrigans until recently, when we converted it into a place for you to stay, hang out, meet other travelers, and enjoy.
We’ve kitted it out with all the things we could think of that would make it an ideal place for a beach holiday. It has a fantastic location in the centre of old town Lagos within the medieval walls. It’s a short walk to the beach and is close to everything you might need such as supermarkets, shops, restaurants, bars, and pharmacies etc, as well as everything you don’t need but are awesome to have nearby, like one of the best burger bars in the world (seriously, there was a vote) and a mini-golf playground!
Relax, unwind, and hang out with friends in the open shared spaces. Cook up a decent breakfast in the kitchen before hitting the beach. Or ask our super friendly staff to give you some great tips on where to eat and what to do and see.
